French Unilateralism
The French have been flouting international standards and procedures. France's deficit of 4% of GDP exceeds the 3.0% cap imposed by the EU Growth and Stability Pact.

Outright flouting of the rules by a major power in Europe has angered smaller countries, with the Netherlands threatening a law suit.
A French weekly news magazine summed up the French-inspired EU showdown in an editorial that said: "Our leaders are europhiles for lunch and europhobes for dinner and this double speak proves yet again that they take us for idiots.''

I for one and shocked by this refusal to subordinate domestic interests to multinational treaties.
